It's really strange being in *almost* a foreign land. It's exactly what we wanted - a place that felt foreign but not that far away. We were warned that it would be cold (and it was), but there was enough sun to warm us up during the days, and to be honest, Sister was jet-lagged and I was sick, so we stayed cozy inside at night.
Some people said that the French Canadians were condescending in their use of the French language, much like the French are in France. (WHY MUST AH SPEAK ANYTING UDDER THAN MAH BEAUTIFUL LANGUEEGE O FRANCAIS??) However, our experience this trip was different. They readily used English with us, probably after sensing how hard we were concentrating on what they were saying, just hoping that we'd recognize 1 word and then making an educated guess. Then nod "yes" or shake head for "no." Pointing is good too.
